Aeronautical Society of India Associate Membership of the Aeronautical Society of India (AMAeSI), is recognized by the Govt of India as equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering. The Aeronautical Society of India was established in 1948 under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with the support and patronage of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who also became the Society's first patron in chief. Over the years, the Society has grown into a major professional body in the field of aeronautics in the country. The members include eminent scientists, pilots, engineers and technologists drawn from all major organizations like the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, DGCA, DRDO, Indian Air force, Air India, Indian Airlines, etc. Candidates who have passed Section A and B of the Society's examinations are eligible to appear in GATE. Those who have passed Associate Membership Examination of the Society are eligible for relaxation of 12 months experience required for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License conducted by the Director General of Civil Aviation.
